Police fired tear smoke shells to disperse the mob who wanted to meet Geelani at his residence in Hyderpora as he was put under house arrest just after his arrival from New Delhi.
“We were peacefully waiting for Geelani Sahab, when he was brought by police and put under house arrest, we came to meet him. As we tried to move towards the link road leading to his residence police fired so many tear smoke shells to disperse us on the airport road,” said a neighbor of Geelani adding “we only wanted to enquire about his health.”
Sources told Kashmir Life that as Geelani was brought arrested from the airport a number of people gathered and raised anti India and pro-freedom slogans on the airport road. The large contingent of police swung into action and tried to chase them away who retaliated by pelting stones. Police later on fired many tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters.
Meanwhile police sources told Kashmir Life that the situation has been brought under controlled in Hyderpora.
