Veteran separatist leader and chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani Thursday arrived in Srinagar from New Delhi at 2.20 pm. He was accompanied by his son Naseem Geelani. He had gone to Delhi on December11, 2012.

A large contingent of police had already reached the airport and as 83 years old leader came out he was arrested. Geelani was later taken to his residence at Hyderpora and put under house arrest.

Geelani while talking to Kashmir Life just after his house arrest said, “it was expected, they try to curb the ongoing freedom movement and their every effort is to keep me far from the people.”

“It is the real face of Indian democracy, it in fact reveals their plans of crushing the people of Kashmir,” he added.
No one except his family was allowed to enter his residence at Hyderpora, Srinagar after he was put under house arrest.
Geelani spent most of the time under house arrest since 2010, uprising.

Geelani was in Delhi since last December. According to the sources close to ailing Geelani, he has been advised by his doctors to keep himself away from the severe cold so he spends most of the winters in New Delhi.

He was even house arrested in New Delhi this year after the hanging of Afzal Guru, parliament attack convict on February 9. Geelani was released after more than fifteen days by Delhi police.
