Massive tensions are reported from central Kashmir Budgam districts where innumerable instances of attacks on polling stations were reported. At least in two cases, top official sources said, the polling staff was marshaled by the residents.

“We have reinforced some places,” a middle rung police officer said. “There are highly tenses areas in Chadoora, Chrar-e-Sharief and Beerwa.”

Police staff was harassed at Hayatpora. “We do not have any report of damage to any EVM but yes staff was beaten,” one officer said.

Clashes are right now going on in at least five places in Budgam district alone, police said. “We are in the process of collecting more details, please wait till we have the complete picture,” the officer added.

Earlier, residents attempted attacking a polling booth in Dalwan village, very close to Chrar-e-Sharief which was resisted by the police and paramilitary forces. At least two civilians were injured in the firing. While TV channels are reporting the two deaths, police said they are in the process of confirming it. “We have reports about two injured and not two deaths,” a top civil administration officer associated with the elections said.
