The Outstanding International Student (OIS) Award is a one-time, merit-based entrance scholarship granted to eligible students upon admission to UBC. Recipients of this award demonstrate academic excellence and active involvement beyond the classroom.
International Major Entrance Scholarships (IMES) are presented to outstanding international students enrolling in undergraduate programmes at UBC. Students are awarded IMES upon commencing their first year at UBC, and these scholarships are renewable for up to three additional years of study. The quantity and level of IMES awarded each year are subject to change based on available funding.

The courses offered by the university are People, Culture and Society, History, Law and Politics, Languages and Linguistics, Media and Fine arts, Business and Economics, Earth, Environment, and Sustainability, Health and Life Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Math, Chemistry, and Physics and Education.

All prospective students must exhibit a minimum level of proficiency in English as a prerequisite for admission. Students must be new to UBC, enrolling directly from secondary school or post-secondary (university or college). Applicant must be an international student intending to study at UBC on a Canadian study permit (student visa). (Changes to your citizenship status will impact your IMES eligibility.) They must demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and intellectual promise, along with noteworthy extracurricular and community involvement. They must not be nominated for a need-and-merit-based International Scholars award.
