SRINAGAR: Search and rescue operations in the Surankote area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district entered the third consecutive day on Tuesday, with police and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams continuing efforts to trace missing persons and assist affected residents following flash floods and landslides.
According to reports, joint teams are conducting extensive operations across the area after heavy rainfall triggered flash floods, landslides and widespread damage to roads and infrastructure in Poonch over the past few days.
The district has witnessed significant disruption, with several link roads blocked and many low-lying and hilly areas cut off due to incessant rain.
Authorities have also reported loss of life in other parts of Poonch, including the Loran-Domaila Dhook area, where a landslide earlier this week claimed seven lives.
Officials said the rescue teams are concentrating on tracing missing persons, clearing debris and providing relief to affected families in Surankote and adjoining areas.
With the threat of rising water levels in nallahs and unstable slopes persisting, the administration has advised residents to remain vigilant and avoid venturing near water bodies and landslide-prone locations.
