Days after the ruling National Conference (NC) declared the name of the chief Minister Omar Abdullah as the party candidate for Beerwah Assembly constituency, the ‘Third Front’ here has in a unanimous decision decided not to field any candidate against him, sources told KNS.

They said DP (N) chief and MLA Tangmarg Ghulam Hassan Mir and PDF chief and MLA Khansahib Hakim Mohammad Yaseen after thorough deliberations have decided not to field any candidate against Omar in Beerwah.

“Also some important announcements vis-à-vis the seat sharing agreements between the various Third Front leaders is to be made on November 12. On the day, senior AMM leader and CPI (M) state secretary Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami will file nomination papers before the returning officer,” they said.

Sources added that Mir, Hakim and Engineer Rashid will accompany Tarigami on the day.  Interestingly, the state Congress has decided that the party will not field any candidate against Tarigami, Hakim Yasin and Mir.

In the recent past, as for the Democratic Party Nationalist (DPN), Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), and People’s Democratic Front (PDF), who are the key partners in ‘Third Front’, the understanding is to share seats with these parties contested in 2008 elections.

The other coalition partners will also be fairly accommodated but the AMM leaders are not prepared to give any concession to newly announced candidates in some constituency, they added.

The seat sharing formula has evolved out of the meeting held today by AMM leaders and the subsequent talks between the partners. The meeting was attended by Mir, Yasin, Tarigami and Rashid. (
