Even though the Governor’s administration will be working despite a state holiday in Jammu and Kashmir N N Vohra skipped attending the martyrs’ ceremony.
It will be perhaps the first ruler of Jammu and Kashmir who has avoided going to the graveyard on July 13. Earlier coalition partners in Jammu and Kashmir state government BJP skipped the event while the pro-freedom leaders were not allowed to carry any rally or programme.
According to an order issued by the government of Jammu and Kashmir, “the chief secretary shall take a meeting of the administrative secretaries on 13 July 2018 at 3:00 pm in the committee room third-floor civil secretariat Srinagar.”
The order further reads “accordingly all the administrative secretaries are requested to kindly make it convenient to attend the meeting.”
Meanwhile, former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and National conference Vice president Omar Abdullah said that meeting has been downgraded to the level of Div Com where normally Chief Minister leads the function.
“After Governor Vohra’s inability to attend it is unfortunate that none of his advisors have seen it fit to be present. It’s been downgraded to the level of Div Com where normally the CM leads the function,” Omar tweeted.
On July 13, 1931, 22 Kashmiris were gunned down by the army of autocratic Dogra ruler after the people rose against Maharaja’s rule for their rights.
