Srinagar

Barring few, most of the land line numbers of police stations and posts in Srinagar city are out of order due to which people are facing lot of inconvenience.

From past several months the land line numbers of Police Stations Karan Nagar, Nigeen, Bagiyass, Harwan, Khanyar, Maisuma, Lal Bazar, Kothi Bagh, Ram Munshi Bagh and others are dead due to which people living in the jurisdiction of these police stations and posts have to face lot of problems.

“The crime rate is very high in Srinagar city and on daily basis the burglars break into the houses. How could people inform and seek their help in times of emergency. It is really disgusting that police which is meant for the protection of people are maintaining a distance with the general public,” one of residents of Nigeen area told CNS.

“Every time you dial the land line number of police stations like Karan Nagar, Khanyar or Nigeen, the only thing you would hear is that ‘this telephone number is temporarily out of service,” a trader said.

There are some police stations which never bother to pick up the call. The landline number of MR Gunj and Nishat remains round the clock busy. The landline number of Panta Chowk Police Station is out of service too. Only few police stations in Srinagar City are those where people could freely and these include Shaheed Gunj, Saddar, Batamaloo and Parimpora.

When contacted a top police officer on condition of anonymity said that it is the duty of the in charges of the concerned police stations to pay telephone bills in time so that connections are not get disconnected.

Inspector General of Police Kashmir Division, Abdul Gani Mir said that he would look into the matter. “I would check it if anywhere telephones are out of order they will be restored,” he said.
