Moderate rains are likely to lash parts of Kashmir valley beginning Friday night as Western Disturbances are making headway towards the region.

Officials at MeT told Kashmir Life that the intensity of the WD is yet to be fully ascertained and it was too early to say how strong or weak it could be. “On 12th and 13th, there will be a widespread rainfall,” Sonam Lotus, Director, Meteorological Department said.

Lotus said that March is normally a rainy reason and there no need to panic. “Although people associated with horticultural activities must exercise caution,” he said.

During March last year, heavy rains led to a greater discharge of water in rivers leading to flood like situation. Recently, Irrigation and Flood Control launched de-siltation drive to increase the retention capacity of Jhelum.
