Amid massive pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, people in thousands turned up for the funeral prayers of two Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militants who were in a gunfight with forces in Kulgam district in southern part of Kashmir on Monday.

Local residents said that five rounds of funeral prayers were held for Dawood Illahi Khan in Havoora village while four rounds were held for Sayar Ahmad Wani in Wanpora.

Earlier, government forces launched a cordon and search operation following inputs about the presence of militants in Khudwani area of Kulgam district.

The militants opened fire on forces triggering a gunfight.

While two militants were killed, an OGW identified as Arif Sofi was arrested during the gunfight, police said.
