Three Drug Peddlers Arrested in North, South Kashmir; Contraband Seized 

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday arrested three alleged drug peddlers in separate operations across Baramulla, Sopore and Anantnag, recovering quantities of charas, codeine phosphate and ganja, officials said.

In Baramulla, police acted on specific information that a man was attempting to sell narcotics in the Janbazpora area. The suspect, identified as Riyaz Ahmad Khan of Janbazpora, was apprehended in the presence of an Executive Magistrate First Class, and 58 grams of charas were recovered from his possession.

In a separate incident in Sopore, a police party from Police Post Warpora intercepted a suspicious person at a checkpoint at Botingoo Herpora. During a personal search, charas-like substance along with bottles of codeine phosphate were recovered. The accused was identified as Nisar Ahmad Malla of Muqam Shaheed Mir.

Meanwhile, in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, a police team from Police Post Sangam intercepted an individual during routine patrolling at Doonipora near Weeta College. A search led to the recovery of approximately 5.66 kilograms of ganja-like substance. The accused was identified as Sahil Fayaz Dar of KV Pora Marhama.

Police said cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at the respective police stations and further investigation is underway. Reiterating a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking, police urged the public to share information to help curb the drug menace and protect youth and society.
