Three militants were killed by joint forces in an overnight gun battle that raged in Amargarh area of Sopore, in Baramulla district, police officials said. A police man and an army soldier were also injured.

There was specific information about the presence of militants following which the area was cordoned off by army, police and CRPF, police officials said. “As forces surrounded the area militants direct fire, hitting police man and an army soldier.”

The fire was retaliated and all the three militants were killed.

A police official said that the house in which they were staying did not suffer damage as the militants were killed in the lawn.

The identity of the slain militants is yet to be ascertained, police officials said, adding that three Ak-47 rifles, two magazines and ten rounds were recovered from them.

The two injured forces personnel who were immediately shifted to the hospital are stable.
