During the inspection, discrepancies were found in the records relating to Schedule H and H1 drugs, while the establishments were also found to be in violation of the conditions of their licences.

The three shops were closed on the spot under Section 22(d) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. The operation of their licences has also been disallowed until the required compliances are completed.

The department said the action forms part of its continuing efforts to ensure transparency in the sale of scheduled drugs and prevent the misuse of prescription medicines.

Chemists in the area have been directed to strictly comply with the rules governing the sale and purchase of scheduled drugs, maintain sale and purchase bills and prescription CBS registers as mandated, and issue bills or cash memos for every transaction.

The authorities warned that violations of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and the rules framed under it would invite strict action under law.
