Three militants were killed after army foiled an infiltration bid along the line of control in Balthariyaan area of Tangdar sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, said a police official.
An official said that a gunfight broke out after the army’s 6 Ghadwal regiment challenged a group of militants at the LoC near Balthariyaan area of Tangdhar. He said the militants opened fire on the army, triggering off an encounter.
He said that three militants have been killed by the army during the encounter.
Taking to social networking site Twitter Director General of Police, SP Vaid, wrote: “Three militants killed by Army while infiltrating in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara today.”
The identity of the slain militants was not immediately established.
A search operation is currently on in the area, the official added.
