Three rag- pickers of Ramban were killed in an explosion near Birma Bridge in Udhampur district on Wednesday. The deceased were brothers, aged between 10 to 16 years.

DIG Udhampur- Reasi range, Surinder Gupta, told Greater Kashmir that the three siblings were Wednesday afternoon trying to extract iron from a powerful live shell which they might have collected from the nearby area.

The deceased brothers of Dharli area in Ramban district have been identified as Vikas, Deepu and Maheshu.

On whether the shell was collected from any nearby army range, Gupta said, “it will be premature to comment on the issue. A police team is investigating the matter. Let them submit the enquiry report, the exact reasons will be known.”

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed expressed profound shock over the tragic death of three brothers in an explosion in Udhampur district of Jammu.

In his condolence message, Mufti Sayeed conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved family members and prayed to Almighty for giving them courage to bear such an irreparable loss. He also prayed for peace to the departed souls.

The Chief Minister instructed Deputy Commissioner Udhampur to enquire into the incident and extend all possible assistance to the bereaved family.

Member Parliament and PDP President, Mehbooba Mufti, has also expressed deep anguish over the unfortunate deaths.

In her condolence message, Mehbooba described as tragic the death of three young boys in the incident. She conveyed her heart- felt sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed souls.
