SRINAGAR: Three Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel were killed in an encounter with militants in Kathua district, officials said on Thursday. Two militants were also killed in the ongoing gunfight.
The encounter broke out in Juthana when security forces engaged the militants. In the exchange of fire, three policemen sustained grievous injuries and later succumbed. Several other security personnel were also injured and are currently undergoing treatment, an official confirmed.
Security reinforcements have been rushed to the site as trapped militants continue to engage the forces. The operation is being closely monitored by Inspector General (IG) of Jammu Zone Police, Bhim Sen Tuti, while Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat is overseeing developments from a nearby base.
With the situation still evolving, the security forces remain on high alert, and further details are awaited. (KB)
