SRINAGAR: In a resplendent showcase of Srinagar’s urban rejuvenation, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) clinched a victory in the State Level City Beauty Competition-2024. Their transformative efforts in shaping the city’s landscape were recognised and lauded by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India.

The spotlight shone on three captivating locations within Srinagar’s embrace: the picturesque Jehlum River Front and the bustling Polo View High Street, both crowned as a ‘Beautiful Waterfront and Market Place’ in Jammu and Kashmir. Additionally, Rajbagh Ward emerged victorious in the Municipal Ward Category, adding another feather to Srinagar’s cap.

Dr Owais Ahmed, Commissioner of SMC and Chief Executive Officer of SSCL, expressed his elation at the triumph and underscored the significance of such initiatives in fostering beautiful, innovative, and inclusive public spaces. He commended the dedicated efforts of the SMC and SSCL teams, whose tireless work has contributed to the city’s aesthetic charm and vibrancy.

The City Beauty Competition, initiated by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, aimed to celebrate and incentivize cities and wards for their endeavours in urban beautification and transformation. Srinagar’s success underscores its commitment to creating accessible, amenity-rich, and ecologically sustainable urban environments.

Judged on the pillars of Accessibility, Amenities, Activities, Aesthetics, and Ecology, Srinagar’s winning entries stood out in a competitive field, earning accolades from a panel of esteemed experts. The recognition received at the state level now propels SMC and SSCL into the national arena, where they will proudly represent Jammu and Kashmir.
