Three Suspected OGWs Held After Facial Recognition System Alerts Police During Amarnath Yatra

   

SRINAGAR: Three suspected Over Ground Workers (OGWs) were apprehended by the Anantnag Police after the Facial Recognition System (FRS) deployed for the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra generated alerts about their movement in the Sarbal area, officials said.

According to the police, the advanced surveillance system flagged three suspicious individuals as they were passing through Sarbal. Acting on the alerts, police personnel intercepted the trio and carried out identity verification.

During the verification process, all three individuals were identified as suspected Over Ground Workers, following which they were taken into custody for further legal proceedings, police said.

The police said the apprehensions were made on the basis of intelligence generated through the Facial Recognition System and subsequent verification.

Officials said the development underscored the role of technology-driven surveillance in strengthening security arrangements for the annual pilgrimage. They added that the Anantnag Police would continue to utilise modern surveillance systems and maintain a robust security grid to ensure the safety of pilgrims and preserve peace in the district.

The identities of the apprehended individuals were not immediately disclosed.
