SRINAGAR: After several representations to police and her mother eventually moving to Court, police in Bandipora on Friday filed an FIR to investigate the alleged murder of a 20-year-old woman three years ago and investigate the case afresh.

The woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her in-law’s house in Ganastan village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on August 9 in year 2018, reported news agency KDC.

Her family had alleged she was killed by her husband, Irshad Ahmad Baig, and told police that he would abuse and beat her.

Police, however, claimed to have conducted inquest proceedings into the matter last year in 2020, during which the body of the deceased woman was exhumed and post mortem was conducted thereafter.

The outcome of inquest proceedings initiated under 174 CrPC by police found no one’s involvement in the death of the deceased woman and police had subsequently closed the case as natural death.

In February this year, the family moved the court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class Sumbal, Sonawari and on March 4, the Court directed the registration of F.I.R in exercise of Jurisdiction Conferred Under Section 156(3) Code of Criminal Procedure. The Complaint lady who is the mother of the deceased had earlier approached different forums and was represented by Advocate Abid Hussain and Advocate T‑asleem Jaan before the Court.

On March 12 (Friday), police filed a  an FIR number 28/2021 under Section 302 of IPC against Irshad Ahmad Beigh son of Mohammad Ashraf Beigh and fresh investigations were started.
