Jammu and Kashmir Police has erected barricades in Shopian district to prevent motorists from over-speeding, the spokesman said on Thursday.

He said the barricades were erected at the specified location at the request of the general public.

Due to its unique hilly terrain people, the people in Shopian district, he said, usually suffered inconvenience because of frequent traffic jams.

“On the request of the general public, Shopian Police launched a special drive for efficient traffic management in and around Shopian town. Removing of hurdles at bottlenecks and busy crossings is being done along with the erection of barricades at specific locations to limit over-speeding of vehicles,” he said.

He said they have dedicated more manpower for better regulation of traffic along the main road junctions in the apple town.
