SRINAGAR

Scores of people from Central Kashmir staged a massive protest against the ‘planned extension’ in lease agreement to Toasmaidan and Drang meadows to Indian Army on Monday.

As per the reports of a local news agency, CNS, scores of activists from J&K Right to Information, Toasmaidan Bacahao Front and Rural Voice assembled in Press Enclave Srinagar and warned state government of ugly consequences of Toasmaidan lease extension to Indian Army.

The protestors pressed upon the government not to extend lease agreement which is expiring on April 16 next year. They said that any sort of extension would spark widespread protests in Valley while the government would be responsible of whatever the repercussions may be.

“Toasmaidan firing range is the biggest tragedy in ongoing democracy, wherein more than 63 people have been killed since its agreement and hundreds are permanently disabled,” the protestors said and urged upon the government not to extend the ‘planned lease’ to the Army.
