The Leh-Nyoma road has been blocked as torrential rains triggered flash floods in Leh region on Sunday evening washing away several structures.

Sources told Kashmir Life that heavy rains battered Stakmo village of Leh resulting in flash floods. However, no loss of life was reported.

Sources said that the Leh-Nyoma route will take almost a week to restore completely.

Meanwhile, MeT ruled out reports of cloudburst in Leh. While confirming that heavy precipitation occurred in the region, weatherman Sonam Lotus said that rainfall recorded was 26mm. “That is indeed very intense,” he said. “But we cannot decisively say that it was a cloudburst.”

To qualify as cloudburst, the rainfall must be recorded about 100 mm.
