The Department of Tourism continued its Valley-weekend tourism promotional programme this week by hosting musical and cultural performances from Valley’s known singer, Rashid Jehangir on Donga at Nehru Park in Dal Lake.

The musical journey was organized in collaboration with Cultural Academy, Sports Council and JK Tourism Development Corporation.

The event was attended by Director Tourism, Mehmood Ahmad Shah, Secretary Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Dr. Aziz Hajini besides Deputy Directors from Tourism, Peerzada Zahoor, Riyaz Beigh, and Wasim Raja.

On the occasion, musical performances enthralled the audience with beautiful numbers from Valley’s renowned singer Rashid Jehangir. The musical journey attracted a good gathering of both locals and tourists.

Wearing traditional pheran and turban atop Dunga which was anchored at Nehru Park, the artists led by Rashid Jehangir sang Kashmiri numbers and fusion and Sufiyana music.

Speaking on the occasion, Director Tourism Kashmir, Mahmood A Shah said the Department has started a weekend programme to entertain tourists and to engage locals.

“Tourists come here and enjoy the beauty but they miss entertainment here. It will also attract locals and they can come along with families and enjoy weekends,” said the Director.

The entry into the event was open to both locals and tourists. The tourists were given traditional attire like embroidered pheran to wear giving them the taste of local experience.

“Such events will counter the wrong perception among travellers and would go a long way in attracting more tourists to Kashmir,” Shah said.
