SRINAGAR: A tourist was killed on Wednesday after a boulder fell from a hillside and struck the vehicle he was travelling in on the Khanbal-Pahalgam Road near Bumzoo shrine in Mattan area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said.
According to an official, the incident occurred when an Innova bearing registration number JK01AT-8081, carrying six tourists from Pahalgam towards Anantnag, was hit by the boulder after it rolled down the hillside.
One tourist suffered critical injuries in the incident, while the other five tourists and the driver escaped unhurt, the official said.
The injured man was taken to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, where doctors declared him brought dead.
The deceased was identified as R Himansu Prasad Rao, son of R Pala Krishna Rao, a resident of Ganjam, Odisha.
Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated further proceedings.
