SRINAGAR: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday accused the authorities in Jammu and Kashmir of applying different standards to political parties after the BJP and National Conference (NC) held counter-protests in Srinagar.
Mehbooba alleged that PDP workers had previously been prevented from leaving the party office to stage peaceful demonstrations, while the BJP and NC were allowed to hold protests against each other.
“The very same police that won’t allow PDP to step outside its office to hold a peaceful protest on public issues have facilitated both BJP and NC to protest against each other,” Mehbooba said in a post on X.
Her remarks came as BJP workers gathered at Lal Chowk to protest against the NC-led government in Jammu and Kashmir. The NC also staged a counter-protest at Rajbagh, targeting the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre over the non-restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
Mehbooba questioned who authorised what she described as selective restrictions and why protest-related rules were allegedly being applied differently to political parties.
