The ski resort of Gulmarg was among the main locations to receive snowfall, along with districts such as Ganderbal district, Kupwara district, Shopian district and Bandipora district.

Officials said Gulmarg has recorded around five to six inches of fresh snow since Wednesday, with intermittent snowfall continuing into Thursday, covering roads, rooftops and slopes with a fresh layer.

The snowfall, attributed to an active western disturbance, has brought back winter-like conditions in the region even as the season was drawing to a close. While the plains received rainfall, higher elevations witnessed snowfall.

Tourism stakeholders said the late-season snowfall is likely to boost tourist arrivals and winter sports activities in Gulmarg, one of India’s leading ski destinations. Hoteliers and tour operators expressed optimism that the fresh snow could help extend the tourist season, which usually begins to taper off by mid-March.

Locals said the snowfall has enhanced the scenic beauty of the area, drawing more visitors to attractions such as the Gulmarg Gondola. Authorities added that intermittent precipitation is expected to continue in the higher reaches over the coming days.
