The famous health resort Sonamarg and its adjoining areas in upper reaches of Kangan in Ganderbal district received the season’s first snowfall in the wee hours on Wednesday.
Sources said that snowfall began at around 3 am and by today morning it has accumulated to 2 inch depth.
Director Meteorological department, Sonam Lotus had predicted a spell of light rain in plains and light snowfall in hills between November 14 and 15.
“A Western Disturbance is approaching that will subsequently results in rains in plains and snow at hills, officials said.
Light snowfall was recorded in Sonamarg, Naranag and Thajwas while rains in plains in Ganderbal, they said.
With the fall in the day temperature, people across the valley have started putting on warm cloths.
