Toy AK-47 Carrying Smugglers Arrested

Two timber smugglers masquerading as militants were arrested by police in Awantipora last night, a police spokesman said.

The duo were identified as Ishfaq Ahamd Lone son of Ghulam Mohammad resident of Chewllar, Tral and Bilal Ahmad Magray son of Mohammad Akbar resident of Chana Kitaar, Tral. They were spotted by an Army ambush of 42 RR last night at Nai Basti, Tral along with an AK 47.

On being challenged the duo fled the spot and threw their weapons. They were chased and later held. The weapon they had thrown away was found to be a just a toy AK 47.

During investigations it was found that the duo was involved in timber smuggling and used to spread terror among locals by masquerading as militants.  An FIR number 73/2013 under section 28, 25B Act was registered in police station Tral.
