Fresh avalanche warning has been issued in Valley after heavy snowfall in the hilly and mountainous areas. People and tourists have been advised to stay away from the snow hit areas as a precautionary measure.

“The state has been experiencing inclement weather for the past three days owing to western disturbance, which has started weakening now. Weather would show signs of improvement from 26th February evening,” Sanum Lotus told a local news agency, KNS.

He advised the people in snow fall areas especially in mountains not to visit mountainous areas for few days, “With the betterment in temperature after snowfall, avalanche could occur.”

Meanwhile, after remaining closed for two days, Srinagar-Jammu highway was open for traffic on Sunday.

“Subject to the weather conditions, traffic will run from Srinagar to Jammu on Monday. Stranded traffic was allowed to move towards their destinations after clearance of road on Sunday”, Inspector General of Traffic Muneer Ahmad Khan told KNS.

 He said that traffic will ply from Srinagar to Jammu on Monday, subject to the weather conditions, adding, “Passengers will have to pass the Qazigund CP by 11am.”
