In an attempt to promote Winter Sports in Jammu and Kashmir, the first Snow Professional Rugby match trials, season 2017 kick started Sunday at Bakshi Stadium Srinagar. Young and aspiring players participated in the trials for upcoming 4th Snow All India Rugby 7’s tournament at Gulmarg. This was stated in a statement.

“Selection trials will be monitored through for upcoming 4th snow All India Rugby 7’S tournament that will be held at Gulmarg in second week of February 2017,” said Sports Council Official.

“We believe ourselves as the frontrunners of playing this game on snowfields. We want some progress in this game as Gulmarg is the perfect spot for national and international tournaments and championships,” said Irfan, Rugby Coach.

Sports Council Secretary, Waheed Ur Rehman Parra while interacting with the players from different parts, expresses his happiness & said that Snow Rugby is getting popular day & day.

“Youth are enjoying the sports of the Snow Rugby & one day will come that Snow Rugby will be the feature of the Winter National Games. Rugby Association of J&K State is working very hard for the promotion of Snow Rugby not only in the State but throughout the country,” said Parra.

He appreciated the role of the players in the said mission. “ We will always help to promote the event of snow rugby in the state as the Gulmarg is the best platform for the Snow Rugby & in future Snow Sports will further help having International events in our State.”

It is pertinent to mention here that Gulmarg is considered the country’s premier ski resort with its natural slopes and inclines.
