Authorities on Saturday snapped the Internet service in police district Awantipora following a gunfight between militants with forces in Arampora village of Tral.

Reports said that soon after the gunfight rages in Arampora village, the authorities suspended the Internet service in police district Awantipora which includes Pampore, Awantipora, and Tral.

An official said that the service was shut “as a precautionary measure” to prevent spreading of rumours.

Earlier a joint team of army’s 42RR, 180 B, CRPF and SOG Awantipora launched cordon and search operation in Arampora after having credible input about presence of some militants in the area.

As soon joint team of forces intensified searches towards suspected spot the hiding militants fired upon goverment forces triggering an encounter.

Intermittent exchange of fire was on when this report was being filed.
