Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday claimed to have killed another militant in south Kashmir’s Tral of Pulwama district, taking the total death toll of militants four.

Taking to a social networking site Twitter DGP SP Vaid wrote: “One more terrorist killed taking the total to 4, (SIC).”

Earlier, three militants, a soldier and SOG personnel were killed in the fierce gunfight in the forests.

Official sources said that during the searches one more militant body was recovered along with a rifle at Goiytengo forests.

A joint team of forces along with the additional reinforcement intercepted the militant group at the upper side of the Goiytengo forests who earlier fled after a brief exchange of gunfire.

In the exchange of firing two army men and one SOG personal identified as Latif Gojri also sustained serious bullet wounds. The critically injured Latif later succumbed.

Prior to him, a soldier Ajay Kumar of 42 RR succumbed to injuries at 92 base hospital here in Srinagar.

Meanwhile, police in a statement said that Awantipora police along with 42 RR and 180 Bn of CRPF carried out searches in the Gatengo Laam forest area of Tral.

The spokesman said that after receiving credible inputs about the presence of militants in the area, searches were initiated and during searches, the militants fired heavily upon the search party. Security Forces in their guarded response fired back leading to an encounter with the militants. During the encounter, three militants of JeM were killed. Their identity is being ascertained.

Moreover, one police personnel identified as Mohammad Latif, son of Ghulam Hassan resident of Tral and one Army Jawan identified as Ajay Kumar attained was killed in the encounter.

During the encounter, incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the spot. The search in the area is going on.

Separately the wreath laying ceremony of the policeman Latif Gojri was held at DPL Awantipora where among others IGP Kashmir Swayam Prakash Pani, DIG SKR Amit Kumar and others SFs participated.
