Several persons were injured during clashes between protesters and government forces in Trehgam town of north Kashmir’s Kupwara.

Locals said clashes erupted soon after the funeral prayers of a slain civilian who was killed by army late last night.

Reports said that the forces fired pellets after youth pelted them with stones, triggering clashes resulting in injuries to several persons. Local sources identified one of injured youth as Mohammad Yousuf Bhat a resident of Bunpora Trehgam.

They said all the injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

According to locals Khalid, a shopkeeper was sitting at the shop when the army passing by opened fire late last night after they were pelted with stones by some youth in Trehgam amid a shutdown called by the Joint Resistance Leadership against civilian killings.

Earlier thousands of people participated in funeral prayers of slain youth at his ancestral village Trehgam.

The protests in Trehgam and its adjoining areas were going on when this report was filed.
