Complete shutdown is being observed in Trehgam area of District Kupwara on the third consecutive day against the alleged high handedness of police. Locals said that forces threw stones on glass panes of a Jamia Masjid on Friday when protests had erupted following Friday prayers.

Traffic is off the roads and shops are shut.

Locals said that today morning army officials  visited the village market along with a Casper vehicle and asked the people to let the army pass their cavalcade but locals categorically told them that passage of army will be not be allowed until action is taken against erring cops. “They were greeted with pro-freedom slogans,” one local said.

During clashes on Friday, nearly one dozen civilians were injured after police fired pellets and tear gas shells. Few protesters were hit in eye and they were shifted to Srinagar hospitals for specialized treatments. As per latest reports from SMHS hospital, two of the injured are yet to be discharged.

When Kashmir Life contacted SHO Trehgam for comment, he dropped the line and declined to talk.

When contacted, SSP Kupwara said that he interacted with locals of Trehgam on the issue.
