Truck Conductor Dies, Driver Injured in Margan Top Accident

   

SRINAGAR: A truck conductor was killed and the driver injured after their vehicle plunged into a deep gorge near Naadi Balan, approximately six kilometres from Margan Top in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

An official said that the accident occurred when a truck (registration number JK03K-2017) rolled into a gorge near Naadi Balan while travelling from Anantnag toward Warwan.

The truck reportedly went out of the driver’s control, resulting in the conductor’s death on the spot and serious injuries to the driver.

Following the incident, local police and administrative teams reached the scene to recover the body of the deceased and rescue the injured driver. The injured was shifted to a hospital for treatment.

The deceased conductor has been identified as Jaffar Ahmad Khatana, son of Irshad Ahmad Khatana from Larnoo, while the injured driver is Mumtaz Ahmad Tandeva, son of Ismail Tandeva, also from Larnoo, Kokernag.

Meanwhile, the Kokernag Sub-Divisional administration has issued an advisory concerning traffic movement towards Warwan.

The advisory states, “The winter season is in full swing, and the Gawran-Warwan road has received heavy snowfall and remains frozen due to sub-zero temperatures. There is a high risk of road accidents and mishaps. Driver negligence has been a significant cause of such accidents, leading to loss of lives.” (KNO)
