Sopore Police Tuesday evening seized 32 Cooking Gas cylinders without documents which were to be sold in “black market” by the hoarders at exorbitant rates.
A special Police team under the supervision of SDPO Rafiabad Shabir Khan led by SHO Panzulla Tariq Ahmed, after getting specific information of transportation of gas cylinders, held a Naka at Watergam road near Tragpura Chowk in Baramulla.
At around 6:30pm Police Party signalled the driver of the Mini Truck to stop but the driver of the truck accelerated and tried to flee.
Police party swiftly chased and stopped the truck bearing registration number JK05B/3311 and found 32 illegal Gas cylinders without documents.
Driver of the truck Aashiq Hussain and Manzoor Ahmad both residents of Dangiwacha were arrested.
A case FIR NO 11 u/s 3/8 Essential commodities Act is registered at Police station Panzulla.
While talking to KNS SDPO Rafiabad Shabir Khan said, “We have set investigation into motion and are expecting some more arrests and also some more essential commodities would be seized which is being dumped in godowns by the hoarders.” He said that Black marketing will not be tolerated at any cost.
The locals of the area have appreciated the police action.
