SRINAGAR: A tragic accident occurred on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway today, when a truck skidded off the road at Khoninallah, plunging into a deep gorge. The driver was killed instantly, while the helper managed to escape by jumping from the vehicle moments before the crash.
The truck, travelling from Jammu to Srinagar, reportedly lost control at a dangerous curve along the highway. Eyewitnesses described the horrific scene, with one local resident stating, “The driver seemed to have lost control, and the truck just skidded off the road into the gorge. It all happened in seconds.”
Local news gatherer KINS confirmed that the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was recovered by emergency responders and taken to Ramban Hospital for further identification and legal formalities.
The truck’s helper, who miraculously survived by leaping from the vehicle, recounted his narrow escape. “I saw the truck losing control, and I jumped out just in time,” he said, visibly shaken.
Police have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident, and an official report is awaited. The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has long been infamous for its treacherous terrain and frequent accidents, sparking growing concern among commuters and authorities.
