WASHINGTON: United States President Donald Trump on Sunday welcomed the ceasefire “understanding” between India and Pakistan, reached after four days of cross-border hostilities following the Pahalgam terror attack. Trump said the military escalation could have resulted in large-scale casualties and reiterated his willingness to help reduce tensions.
The US President also said he would look to enhance trade relations with both countries and offered support to find a resolution to the Kashmir issue. His remarks followed a social media post on Saturday evening in which he claimed that India and Pakistan had agreed to halt military action after US-mediated talks.
“I am very proud of the strong and unwaveringly powerful leadership of India and Pakistan for having the strength, wisdom, and fortitude to fully know and understand that it was time to stop the current aggression that could have led to the death and destruction of so many, and so much. Millions of good and innocent people could have died! Your legacy is greatly enhanced by your brave actions,” the US President posted on Truth Social, a social media platform he owns.
