SRINAGAR: In two different cases, two BJP men are in soup in Jammu and Kashmir. While one is facing charges of exploitation of the fair gender, another was held with a stolen vehicle.

The Jammu and Kashmir traffic police have detained a BJP corporator from Srinagar on Monday as he was found driving a stolen vehicle in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Identified as Nazir Ahmad Gilkar, he was on his way to Srinagar along with two personal security officers in a sports utility vehicle (SUV) when he was stopped by the traffic police led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Himmat Singh. After a thorough checking of the documents, it came to the fore that the vehicle was a stolen one having a Haryana registration number.

“The chassis and the registration numbers of the vehicle were not matching and on scrutiny, we came to know that it is a stolen vehicle. The number plate of the vehicle resembled a high-security registration plate (HSRP),” DSP Singh said.

However, in a sensational case reported from South Kashmir, a court has directed police to register a case against Mohamad Sidiq Khan and start investigations. Khan has been alleged of sexual exploitation and blackmailing by some women. The other person accused of being Khan’s accomplice is Shahid Bhat. The court has issued the order of February 11, on the applications moved by the complainants.

The orders were issued by Judicial Magistrate First Class, Vailoo, Kokernag. Reports appearing in media said the court order has said that the complainants have apprehension that the accused being highly influential may hamper or tamper with witnesses of the complainants.

Police have acted on the directions quickly. An FIR has been registered and two persons including Khan have been arrested. Details of the investigation are still not known.

In Srinagar, BJP issued two brief statements about the issue.

“Wont become hurdle in police investigation, let police probe and get to the roots of allegations levelled against BJP leader  Muhammmad Sidiq Khan about sexual exploitation,” Altaf Thakur, the party spokesman in Srinahgar, said. “However, we believe our leader is clean and as a responsible party leader, he wont indulge anything that would defame party.”

In another brief statement attributed to JK UT Vice President Sofi Yousf, about the “the arrest of senior leader Mohd Sidiq Khan on the allegations of sexual exploitation” said that “our leader is honest and clean but we don’t become a barrier in the investigation of police. Let police do their job and we are hopeful our leader would prove innocent   after proper investigation.”
