SRINAGAR: Two brothers were injured after a fire broke out in a residential house, triggering a domestic gas cylinder explosion in the Cheeni Chowk area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Sunday, officials said.
The blaze erupted inside the house, following which a cooking gas cylinder exploded, leaving both brothers with burn injuries.
The injured were identified as Zeeshan Firdous, son of Firdous Ahmad Hafiz, who sustained grievous burn injuries and was shifted to SMHS Hospital, Srinagar, for specialised treatment, and his brother Aqib Firdous, who suffered minor burns and was admitted to a nearby hospital.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the spot and launched an operation to douse the flames. A fire tender from Fire Station Mattan was also dispatched as reinforcement but was later recalled after the fire was brought under control.
Quoting officials news agency GNS reported that the blaze has been completely contained and cooling operations are underway to prevent any fresh flare-up.
The exact cause of the fire and the subsequent gas cylinder explosion is being investigated, officials said.
