SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday said two alleged drug peddlers were arrested in separate anti-narcotics operations in Anantnag and Sopore, with contraband substances recovered from their possession.
In Anantnag, acting on specific information, police raided the residence of Farooq Ahmad Wani, son of Ghulam Rasool Wani, a resident of Nowbugh Veeri in Bijbehara, and recovered 371 grams of charas-like powder from the premises. The accused was arrested on the spot.
In a separate operation in Sopore, a police party during naka checking at Hygam intercepted a suspicious person and recovered charas-like substance from his possession during a personal search. The accused was identified as Farhad Yousef Mir, son of Mohammad Yousef Mir, a resident of Hygam.
Police said cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at the respective police stations and investigations have been taken up.
Describing the operations as part of its anti-drug campaign, police said the action reflects its resolve to curb narcotics trafficking and protect youth from substance abuse. Police also appealed to the public to cooperate in efforts to eliminate the drug menace from society.
