SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested two alleged drug peddlers in separate operations in Kupwara and Sopore on Friday, seizing contraband substances from their possession.
According to police, a checkpoint was set up by Kupwara Police near the Main Road Tikker, close to the Radio Station, where a suspect identified as Shahzad Ahmad Shiekh, son of Bashir Ahmad Shiekh and a resident of Kupwara, was intercepted. A substantial quantity of Charas-like substance was recovered during the search. Initial investigations suggest that Shiekh was involved in peddling drugs for petty financial gain.
In a parallel operation in Sopore, police apprehended another individual at a checkpoint in Chankan area. The accused, identified as Zubair Ahmad Fafu, son of Abdul Rasheed Fafu from Nowhaman Sopore, was found in possession of 12 strips (96 capsules) of Spasmo Proxyvon Plus—a banned psychotropic substance.
Separate cases have been registered at the respective police stations under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigations are underway.
