SRINAGAR: Two earthquakes of magnitude 5.5 and 4.3 struck Ladakh within about four hours on Thursday, causing concern among residents, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).
The stronger earthquake, measuring 5.5, occurred at 6:05 am at a depth of 10 kilometres, with its epicentre located at 36.88 degrees north latitude and 74.402 degrees east longitude in the Leh region, the NCS said.
A second earthquake of magnitude 4.3 was recorded at 9:54 am, also at a depth of 10 kilometres. Its epicentre was located at 36.76 degrees north latitude and 75.326 degrees east longitude in the Leh region, according to the NCS.
Both tremors were recorded in the Leh area and occurred within a gap of nearly four hours.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property following the earthquakes.
