SRINAGAR: The Directorate of Fisheries, Jammu and Kashmir has placed two officials under suspension with immediate effect after they were allegedly found absent from duty without authorisation during a surprise inspection at a government fish farm in Kupwara district.
According to Order No. 408-Fisheries of 2026, dated July 21, 2026, the action was taken following a surprise visit by Director Fisheries, JK, Ab. Majid Tak, to Fish Farm Kohru (Langate), Handwara, on July 19.
The suspended officials have been identified as Nazir Ahmed Wani, Field Supervisor, and Mohd. Rafriq Lone, Orderly. The order states that both were found absent from duty without prior permission or sanctioned leave from the competent authority.
The Directorate said the unauthorised absence prima facie amounted to misconduct and dereliction of official duty, warranting disciplinary action under the applicable service rules.
Exercising powers under Rule 31 of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1956, the competent authority placed both officials under suspension pending a departmental inquiry and disciplinary proceedings.
During the suspension period, the officials have been attached to the Trout Fish Farm, Laribal, Dachigam, Srinagar, and have been directed not to leave their place of attachment without prior permission from the competent authority. They will be entitled to subsistence allowance and other admissible benefits under the rules.
The Assistant Director Fisheries, Kupwara, has been instructed to make alternative staffing arrangements to ensure the smooth functioning of the fish farm. The officer has also been directed to submit a detailed report, along with attendance records, leave records, duty rosters and other supporting documents, to the Directorate within three days for further action.
The order has been issued in continuation of Order No. 401-Fisheries of 2026 dated July 20, 2026, relating to the same matter.
