SRINAGAR: Police in South kashmir’s Anantnag district have arrested two persons in Anantnag district for allegedly extorting Rs 24,000 from a man by threatening to falsely implicate him in a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police Station Srigufwara received a complaint from Ajaz Ahmad Shah, son of Mohd Maqbool of Pethi Nambal Mattan, alleging that the accused demanded and took Rs 24,000 from him and threatened to frame him in a false NDPS case if he did not pay.
Police said they verified the allegations and found that the complainant was not involved in any such case. A case was subsequently registered at Police Station Srigufwara under FIR No. 68/2026 under Sections 308(2)(6), 318(4) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
During the investigation, police identified the two accused as Muzafar Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Mohd Mir, a resident of Veer Nowbugh, Bijbehara, and Jan Mohd Wagay, son of Gh. Rasool, a resident of Pethi Nambal Mattan.
Both were arrested in connection with the case, police said.
Further investigation is underway.
