SRINAGAR: The bodies of two men who drowned in the Chenab River while bathing were recovered on Wednesday, four days after the incident, officials said.
The deceased were identified as 30-year-old Gajay Singh and 35-year-old Rakesh Singh, both residents of Khour area of Akhnoor.
According to officials, the duo had gone to bathe in the river near Hamirpur-Sidhar village on August 9, when they were swept away by the strong current.
The body of Gajay was recovered from the river in the morning, while Rakesh’s body was traced later in the evening following a search operation.
The bodies were subsequently handed over to the families for performing the last rites.
On the day of the incident, rescuers and authorities had recovered a motorcycle, two mobile phones and clothes belonging to the victims from the riverbank.
