SRINAGAR: Two men died after a mound of sand collapsed on them during extraction in Dachanpora village of Rafiabad in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said.
The incident occurred late Tuesday night, when the sand gave way and buried the two men, identified as Javid Ahmad Mir, 28, and Mohammad Anees Malik, 29, both residents of Dachanpora.
Their bodies remained trapped beneath the sand overnight and were recovered on Wednesday morning following efforts by local residents and police.
Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
