SRINAGAR: Two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Shangus- Larnoo area in Anantnag district on Saturday, officials reported. The operation took place near Halkan Gali, a location within south Kashmir known for sporadic militant activity.
Of the two slain militants, one is said to have been identified as a foreign national while the other was a resident. Officials are currently working to determine their group affiliations.
The Anantnag encounter coincides with an ongoing operation in Srinagar’s densely populated Khanyar locality, where security forces have trapped a militant(s) in a house.
A top police officer told local news gatherer GNS that two militants have been killed so far as an operation is underway in the forest area of Shangus, Larnoo. There are speculations of one more militant trapped.
The operation was launched by police and security forces after receiving specific input about the presence of some militants in the area, he said.
