Two militants were killed in an encounter with government forces in Awneera area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday early morning.
The cordon and search operation was launched by a joint team of forces including 1st RR, CRPF and SOG of J&K police after receiving specific inputs about the presence of militants in the village.
During the searches, hiding militants fired upon forces, triggering a gunfight. Police said that two militants have been killed and identified them as Shakir Ahmed of Awneera Shopian, and Sayaar Ahmed of Mochoo Kulgam.
Police spokesman said that Incriminating material including arms and ammunition was also recovered from the site of encounter.
Meanwhile, police in a statement said that on a credible input, a cordon and search operation was launched jointly by police and security forces in Awneera area of district Shopian.`
During the search operation, the hiding militants fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter.
In the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. Incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter.
Citizens are requested not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any, the spokesman said.
