Twenty four hour gun battle in Shallapora, Sopore ended on Sunday when the house in which militants were hiding was razed to ground. In the fierce gunfight, two LeT militants including the Divisional Commander of outfit were killed. The operation was carried jointly by Jammu and Kashmir Police, 22RR and CRPF.

Police identified slain militants as Divisional Commander of LeT, Muzamil Amin Dar @ Urfi @ Abu Hushaam. Dar according to police was involved in the killing of SPO Riyaz Ahmed which took place on September 7, 2012. Police also claimed that he was involved in Delhi blast conspiracy in which two militants were arrested in February this year.

The other killed has been identified as Abdullah Shaheen, who is believed to be a Pakistani national. Besides killing of two militants, ASI Kafeel Ahmad of J&K police and an Army Jawan Gurjan Singh of 22 RR were injured during the initial hours of the encounter.

The operation which started on Saturday at around 4.30 pm was suspended for night, and was resumed this morning. However, the search operation of the encounter site is still going on.

Earlier giving details about the operation, police officials on Saturday said, “Militants present there opened fire which was retaliated and triggering an encounter. Eight houses are under cordoned and we are following the holed up militants since October 4 after three CRPF men received splinter injuries in a grenade attack on their bunker outside the Sopore bus stand.”

In another outbreak Police recovered 01 AK 47 rifle with Magazine, 130 AK Rounds, 03 Chinese Grenade, 03 Kgs of RDX and 02 detonators from a hideout in Kulgam area of North Kashmir on Saturday evening.
As per police sources, Kulgam Police along with 9RR and 18 Bn of CRPF conducted a search operation in Panjannad forests of Kulgam, in the jurisdiction of police station Qazigund. During the search of the forest area a hideout was busted. Arms and ammunition was recovered from the hideout.
